Wuyi, Dancong and Taiwan oolong: decoding the names

Separate a growing area, a cultivar and an aroma style before comparing products.

A cultivar is not a region

Rou Gui and Shui Xian are cultivar names; these profiles focus on Wuyi styles. Alishan refers to a growing area. Jin Xuan is a cultivar. A seller should explain the combination rather than using one term as proof of every other detail.

A style can sit inside another style

Lao Cong Shui Xian adds an old-bush claim to Shui Xian. Ya Shi Xiang is a Dancong aroma style. They are useful browsing entries, not additional tea-processing categories. Ask what supports an age or origin premium.

Roast and ingredients change the choice

For Dong Ding, ask about roast level. For milk oolong, ask whether flavoring is added. Compare small samples suited to your taste; a floral or creamy impression cannot certify ingredients.
